Wild Child Assistant
(Ages 18+)
3-9 hours per week
September - May
Here at Skyline we are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who have a passion for working with children in an outdoor setting. These individuals will also have the desire to learn and develop life skills both as a leader and as an individual. Our wild child staff have the unique experience of working with 3 and 4 year olds outdoors. Our seasons are 10 or 11 weeks long and we are with the children three days a week from 9:00am-12:00pm, with some days staying until 2:00pm. Assistant Instructors get the opportunity to be a facilitator of play, foster independence, and create meaningful experiences that will help our campers grow.
Skyline works to give staff a space to learn about themselves and the world around them as they develop skills and experience in problem solving, communication, creativity, leadership, and flexibility.
Assistant Instructors have a desire to work with 3-5 year old children in an outdoor setting. They are able to apply information learned in training to their experiences at camp with our campers.
Assistants ensure camper well being and safety, help assist during camp activities, and in general do what needs to be done.
Assitants are kind, smart, and self motivated. They have a desire to learn new things. They can adapt and are flexible with change. They are energetic, creative, and bring our campers warmth and light.
Assistants are able to take constructive feedback and be able to reflect on their experiences on the job. We will meet seasonally for a formal feedback meeting.
Assistant Instructors will:
Participate in a staff training and in our Family Open house before our season begins. If starting after our season start date we will arrange training sessions outside of program hours.
Guide campers in participation in activities.
Assist the lead instructors in guiding the group through the routines and program
Maintain and be responsible for campers wellbeing and safety
Lead and facilitate play with campers during the free play times
Clean program spaces throughout the morning and at the end of the week.
Be responsible for keeping themselves healthy and safe
Assistants will work some or all days between Monday-Wednesday from 8:45-12:15pm and/or 2:15pm. We can arrange schedules to be some days rather than all days. Schedules varies based on camper numbers and staffing needs, they are changed from season to season.
Assistants will attend a monthly staff meeting after program hours.
Compensation is an hourly rate and employees will clock in and out for shifts.
