A Day in the Life of a Skyline camper
overnight camper
On a typical day, you’ll wake up to the sounds of an old fashioned alarm clock (or enthusiastic counselors!) in your cabin with your counselors and fellow campers. Time to stretch, get dressed, and prepare for the day ahead.
The early risers among us wake for an optional Polar Bear Swim — a quick dip in the pool to start the day with energy and laughter. It's optional, invigorating, and a badge of honor for those who dare!
Morning Routine. Head to the bathhouse to brush your teeth, wash your face, tidy your space, and get ready. Pack your backpack with water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and anything else you'll need for the day's adventures.
Breakfast. Climb the big hill to the Kitchen & Dining Hall (K&D) for a nourishing breakfast. Fuel up for the day with fresh fruit, homemade granola, eggs, and more.
Gathering. We kick off each day together at the Pavilion with songs, stretches, jokes, announcements, and community time. This is where we connect as a camp and set intentions for the day.
Scatters. Your first free choice activity period! Choose from daily offerings like archery, boating, fishing, tree climbing, gardening, farm visits, theater games, drumming, friendship bracelets, soccer, and more. Try something new or return to a favorite.
Group Choice. Spend time with your cabin mates doing an activity you've chosen together. Maybe you'll go on a wild edible hike, play capture the flag in the woods, have a cooking adventure, build forts, or create an epic game of your own invention.
Lunch. Return to the K&D for lunch together. Fresh salad bar, hearty main dishes, and dessert await. Share stories from your morning adventures around the picnic tables.
After Lunch, Time for Siesta. Head back to your cabin for an hour of rest time. Read, journal, draw, nap, make friendship bracelets, or just decompress. This quiet hour helps you recharge for the afternoon ahead.
Afternoon Activities Rotate through multiple activity areas over the next few hours:
The Pool: Splash, swim, play games, practice diving, or just cool off
The Makerspace: Create something from your imagination - cardboard birdhouses, friendship bracelets, wood projects, fabric art, or whatever inspires you
The Zone: Undirected play time in the woods and on the sports courts. Build forts, play basketball, explore, dig in the mud kitchen, or invent your own games with friends
You might start by crafting in the Makerspace, head to the Zone to join friends building an epic fort, then finish the afternoon swimming and laughing in the pool.
Dinner. Back to the K&D for another delicious meal. Evening energy is high as we look forward to All Camp Events!
All Camp Event (ACE). The whole camp comes together for evening fun! Depending on the night, you might play Capture the Flag, perform at Open Mic, compete in a Water Carnival, dance at a Costume Party, celebrate cultures from around the world, or enjoy a Farm Party with the goats.
Campfire & Snack. Most evenings close with a campfire — songs, skits, stories, and s'mores under the stars. This is when camp magic really happens.
Bathhouse & Bedtime Routine. Head to the bathhouse with your cabin for showers after a sweaty day of hiking and play. Take turns brushing teeth, washing up, and getting ready for bed.
Cabin Wind-Down. Back in the cabin for quiet time before sleep. Read, talk about the day's highlights, write in your journal, draw, or just rest. Whatever unplugged method helps you calm down and reflect.
Lights Out. Sleep comes easily in the woods after our busy days. The sounds of crickets and frogs lull you to sleep as you dream of tomorrow's adventures.
Then we wake up and do it all again!
DAY CAMPer
On a typical day, you’ll meet your fellow camp friends and counselors at your color group tree at the Day Camp Hub. You play games or explore the woods until all our camp friends have checked in. On the way to morning snack your group may decide to climb the pine trees or walk around the pond. We kick off the day altogether at the Gathering with songs, stretches, jokes and more.
Your camp friends in your color group will usually be similar in age to you. Before lunch there is Group Choice time to be spent out on the trails, in the hammocks, creating at the Makerspace or playing in the Zone. Your next stop on this daily journey is lunch at the K & D, or if it’s your lucky day, cooking over a campfire.
After lunch, it’s time for sunblock and swimsuits at the pool. If you aren’t up for swimming there are several other things to choose from on the pool deck or nearby at the Makerspace. Remember to move your pool tag before heading out of the pool area, perhaps to the Zone to play on the sports court or build forts in the woods. Next up… Scatters when you get to enjoy an activity that you choose from the daily options like boating, fishing, tree climbing, gardening, farm animal visits, archery, soccer, camouflage games, wild edible hikes and more.
As that activity time ends you all head back to the Day Camp Hub to reconnect with your color group and eat a snack. Soon the bus will take a load of your friends home, and your grown-ups will arrive to take you home for the day: maybe tired, a little dirty but joyous and looking forward to the next day.
