Future Leaders of Skyline Summers

This program offers mature and qualified teenagers an immersive leadership experience during three weeks of our summer. Future leaders participate in a mix of overnight camp experiences, leadership training, and hands-on learning across camp operations.

The FLOSS Experience

The program includes training in leadership development, life skills, group dynamics, teaching techniques, age-level characteristics, and decision-making skills. You'll learn the "See One, Do One, Teach One" progression that guides so much of what we do at Skyline.

Learning Pathways

FLOSS participants rotate through different areas of camp operations, gaining hands-on experience in:

  • Counseling & Camper Support: Work directly with day camp groups, learning how to guide activities, support individual campers, and build community

  • Kitchen & Food Service: Understand food preparation, dietary accommodations, and the logistics of feeding a camp community

  • Farm & Garden: Learn sustainable food production, animal care, and connecting campers to the natural world

  • Program & Activities: Assist with activity setup, learn safety protocols, and develop skills in leading group experiences

  • Community Care: Assisting with maintenance of our grounds and facilities, and the behind-the-scenes work that makes camp function

Each day includes time in two different areas, ensuring broad exposure to camp operations while developing specific skills in each area.

Living the Experience

FLOSS participants stay overnight at Skyline under the guidance of our staff, experiencing the full rhythm of camp life — from morning Polar Bear swims to evening campfires. You must attend the full week of your session.

Each week is limited to eight FLOSS participants. Campers are generally limited to one or two weeks of FLOSS each summer. If you're able to attend multiple weeks, we encourage trying other overnight camp sessions as well.

Who Should Apply

FLOSS is for teenagers who are genuinely curious about leadership, willing to try new things, and ready to learn by doing. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, willing to take direction, and excited about discovering how camp works behind the scenes.

This isn't a vacation — it's an intensive learning experience that will challenge and grow you!
